The Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets were in a high-scoring affair the last time they saw each other in a game the Avalanche ended up winning 5-3. Colorado can thank their power-play for the win, as they were able to convert all three of their chances with the extra man. The win ended the four-game losing streak that Colorado had coming into the game.

The Blue Jackets were the first to score when Ryan Johansen got his 16th goal of the season four minutes into the first period. Colorado's Jan Hejda was able to tie it up a few minutes later, though, with his fourth of the season. Following a goal by Columbus' Boone Jenner midway through the second period, the Avalanche ended the period with the 3-2 lead thanks to a Jamie McGinn goal and a Ryan O'Reilly power-play tally.

In the third period, Gabriel Landeskog scored Colorado's second power-play goal of the game, but that was quickly answered by Nick Foligno of the Blue Jackets. Nathan MacKinnon was able to seal the win for the Avalanche with their third power-play goal with just over a minute left in the game.

Colorado center Matt Duchene had two assists in the win, while goalie Semyon Varlamov had 35 saves to help the Avalanche stay near the top of the Western Conference standings.

Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney didn't have a good game, stopping just 18 of the 25 shots he faced.
