On Saturday night, the Carolina Hurricanes will go on the road to take on the Washington Capitals in a game between two struggling Metropolitan Division teams.

The Hurricanes and the Capitals played each other five times last season, with the Hurricanes winning three of those games. Carolina won their first two matchups against the Caps early last season by the combined score of 7-3, but Washington was able to win two of the last three games, including a 5-2 road win late in the season.

Hurricanes center Eric Staal has 24 goals and 42 assists in his 64 games against the Capitals, while Jiri Tlusty has eight goals and 12 points against them in 24 games. Goaltender Cam Ward has done well against the Caps in his career, going 16-12-4 with a 2.56 GAA and a .921 save percentage.

The Capitals started the season off near the top of the standings, but their defense has been to blame for their recent struggles. Going into their game against the Hurricanes, Washington is just 2-2-3 on home ice.

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin seems to like facing the Hurricanes as he's scored 27 goals and accumulated 70 points against them in 57 games. Center Nicklas Backstrom has 45 points in 37 games against them, while defenseman Mike Green has 14 goals and nine assists in his 41 games against Carolina.
