On Thursday, the Carolina Hurricanes are going to have a hard time ending their losing streak as they will have to play the Tampa Bay Lightning. Last season, the Lightning won all three of their games against the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes lost their third straight game on Monday when they were defeated 2-1 at home by the New Jersey Devils. They did have a huge 40-16 shooting advantage in that loss, but they also went 0-for-4 on their power play chances.

Carolina's offense has been one of the worst in the NHL through 27 games this season by averaging just 2.2 goals per game. Veteran goalie Cam Ward has an 8-10-1 record this season with one shutout, a .908 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA. Defenseman Justin Faulk has had a good start to the season by scoring four goals and leading the team in assists with 12.

In their last game, the Lightning suffered their second consecutive loss when the Washington Capitals defeated them 5-3 on their home ice. Their power play created good chances in that game, but they ended up going scoreless on three opportunities with the extra man.

Through their first 29 games of the season, the Lightning lead the NHL in scoring by averaging 3.4 goals per game. Center Steven Stamkos is once against playing like one of the best offensive players in the league by notching 17 goals and 16 assists.
