The Carolina Hurricanes hadn't beaten the New York Rangers in over two years, but they were able to get the 3-1 home win in their last meeting. The victory snapped a 10-game losing streak that the Hurricanes had against the Rangers and also gave goalie Cam Ward his first win over two months.

After no goals were scored in the first period, Jiri Tlusty put Carolina on top with his 11th of the season just 33 seconds into the second period. Four minutes later, Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein was able to tie the game up with is first in a New York jersey since being traded from Nashville. Late in the period, Jordan Staal was able to give the Hurricanes the 2-1 lead off of assists from Tlusty and Alexander Semin. The game was finished off when Elias Lindholm got Carolina an insurance goal midway through the third period.

Both Tlusty and Staal finsihed the game with a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward looked like he did back in his best years with a 24 save night and a .960 save percentage in the win.

Henrik Lundqvist may have given up three goals in the game, but he still had a solid night in net. He was able to stop 32 of the 35 shots he faced for a respectable .914 save percentage.
