Thursday night, the Carolina Hurricanes will take the ice in the Big Apple as they face the New York Rangers.  The Hurricanes will be seeing their first win of the season as the Rangers look to shake off a tough loss.

The Carolina Hurricanes fell short of a big comeback as they lost to the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout Tuesday night.  Buffalo had the early 1 - 0 lead after the 1st period but Carolina tied it up early in the 2nd.  The tie didn’t make it the rest of the period as Buffalo regained the lead less than 2 minutes later. Buffalo stretched out to a 3 -1 lead in the 3rd before Carolina’s 2 goals sent the game to overtime.  A scoreless overtime led to a nail-biter of a shootout. Buffalo scored first in the shootout but Carolina matched their goal.  It would take 12 more attempts by both teams before the Sabres would score the game winner.  Even though Carolina lost, they fought hard and that will give them confidence going into Madison Square Garden. 

 The New York Rangers could use some confidence after they took a beating in their last game.  They lost to the arch-rival New York Islanders 6 -3.  The game was close in the early going and was 2 -2 going into the final period.  But in that 3rd period, the Islanders put up 4 goals to pull away from the Rangers.  New York has been getting their shots but nothing seems to find the back of the net.  No matter how much they outshoot their opponents, they need goals.  And since Carolina is giving up an average of 4 goals a game, the Rangers should be able to get their chances.
