On Tuesday, the Carolina Hurricanes will attempt to end their five-game losing skid when they visit the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens were able to win two out of their three games against the Hurricanes a season ago.

The Hurricanes' struggles continued on Saturday night when the Philadelphia Flyers routed them 5-1 on the road. Backup netminder Anton Khudobin had a bad day in net in that loss, saving just 18 of the 23 shots that came his way.

Through 29 games, the Hurricanes are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference in scoring with just 2.1 goals per game. Defenseman Justin Faulk has been one of their better players through 29 games by notching five goals and 12 assists. Starting goalie Cam Ward is 8-11-1 this year with one shutout and a .909 save percentage.

The Canadiens won their second straight game last Friday when they easily defeated the Los Angeles Kings 6-2 on home ice. Their power play was excellent in that win, scoring on two of their three chances with the extra man.

So far this season, the Canadiens have had one of the top 10 penalty kills in the league by stopping opposing power plays 84.8 percent of the time. Left wing Max Pacioretty has been one of their better offensive players by scoring a team-high 13 goals and providing nine assists to his teammates.
