The Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche will both be looking to get more from their offenses when they face each other on Saturday. During the 2013-14 season, the Hurricanes and the Avs played each other twice, with both teams picking up a home win.

The Hurricanes were undisciplined in their matchup with the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night and ended up taking a 3-2 road loss. They had 21 penalty minutes in that loss and they ended up being outshot 39-27.

Through their first 19 games, the Hurricanes are in the bottom 10 in the league in both goals scored and goals against. Veteran goalie Cam Ward is 6-5-1 this year with one shutout and a .903 save percentage. Center Riley Nash has four goals and he leads the team in points with 13.

On Thursday night, the Avalanche once again struggled to get their offense going and they were beaten 3-2 by the Washington Capitals at home. They did have a 29-23 shooting advantage in that game, but they were unable to get any chances on the power play.

The Avalanche have one of the best penalty kills in the NHL, but they are near the bottom of the league in scoring. Goalie Semyon Varlamov is 4-5-4 this season with a .918 save percentage and a 2.95 GAA. Defenseman Tyson Barrie has had a strong start to the year by scoring two goals and assisting on 12 others.
