Coming into the game against the Carolina Hurricanes when these 2 last played, the Chicago Blackhawks were winless inside the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. Looking to break the streak more than anyone was Chicago's Patrick Sharp, who scored his 200th goal in the game and helped Chicago win their 2,500th regular-season game in club history. Sharp was no stranger to winning things in the PNC Arena. In one of his last visits here, he earned a car for being selected as MVP of the 2011 All-Star Game. In this game he not only scored the first goal of the game but he also scored the only goal in the shootout giving the Blackhawks the win 3-2.
At the 10:18 mark in the first, Marian Hossa scored the second goal of the game, putting the Blackhawks up by two going into the first intermission. The second period saw no goals, but the third would see two goals by the Hurricanes. With 16:06 left in the game, Alexander Semin grabbed a rebound off of Eric Staal's shot and ripped one past goalie Corey Crawford to cut the Blackhawks lead in half. Then with 7:27 to go in the game, Ron Hainsey got one past Crawford to tie the game up. The game went into overtime where neither team scored and then into a shootout. The Hurricanes had three chances to score, including the last chance taken by Jeff Skinner, which was blocked by Corey Crawford. Sharp was the only one that scored in the shootout.
