Tuesday night, the Calgary Flames will continue their 5 game road trip with stop at the Verizon Center to face the Washington Capitals.
The Calgary Flames opened the trip in Montreal on Sunday night where they dealt the Canadiens their first home loss of the season in the 6 -2 victory. The Flames scored early and often in the win and opened the game with 2 goals in the 1st period to go up 2 - 0. Calgary scored the only goal of the 2nd and went into the final period up 3 - 0. Montreal cut the lead to 3 -1 with an early goal in the 3rd but Calgary wouldn’t be stopped. They answered with 2 more goals and brushed back a 2nd Montreal goal with a final goal. The Flames outshot the Canadiens 36 to 20 and will look for another solid effort like that as they face the Capitals.
The Washington Capitals come into this one after blowing a 2 goal lead in their 6 - 5 loss against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night. After Arizona posted the opening goal of the game, Washington added 3 straight to end the 1st period up 3 – 1. But Arizona wouldn’t go away. The Coyotes scored 2 in the 2nd and went into the final period tied with the Capitals. The Coyotes lit the lamp 3 straight times to open the 3rd and take a 6 -3 lead. Washington tried to close the gap with 2 late goals but it was just too little too late. It was the 4th straight loss for Washington and they have given up 4 or more goals in each of those losses. If the Caps don’t tighten up their defense, they might lose their 5th straight.
