The Calgary Flames will miss the postseason for the 5th straight year but hope remains optimistic for the future. Calgary can finish no better than 24th in the 30 team league but 49 of their 80 games so far have been decided by 1 goal. If a few of those pucks go the other way next year the playoffs could be in sight. Ending the year after game 82 is a new concept for Vancouver, who has made the playoffs 5 straight years. Still Vancouver has hired a new team President in Trevor Linden and is hopeful for 2014/15 success under their new regime.

Despite being officially eliminated from the postseason the past couple weeks, Calgary is finishing their season with heads held high. From March 22nd through April 9th the Flames won 7 games including 4-straight at the end of that span. It's only the second time this year that the Flames have a 3+ game winning streak but it serves as a great building block for the offseason.

Vancouver was in striking distance of the 8th playoff spot a little over two weeks ago but couldn't string together enough consecutive wins to make their run. On a 10 game span from March 17th to April 10th Vancouver won just 4 games which sealed their fate for the season.

Finishing out the season sweep of the Flames could be a small victory for Vancouver. The Canucks have won all 4 of the previous meetings although per Calgary's fashion 3 of them were by just one goal. The most recent meeting was a 2-1 Vancouver win on March 8th where Canucks backers cashed in a -199 ticket.
