Saturday afternoon, the Calgary Flames will take the ice at the BB&T Center to face the Florida Panthers.

The Calgary Flames started off well but faded in their 5 - 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.  The game was close in the early going as the Lightning scored first but the Flames responded to make it a 1 -1 game after one period.  Tampa Bay opened the game up with 2 more goals early in the 2nd and suddenly they had a 3 -1 lead.  Calgary cut the lead to one just 20 seconds later but that was as close as they would get.  Tampa Bay added 2 more goals in the 3rd to pull away for good.   The Flames played a decent game but too many mistakes at key moments led to the loss. They should have an easier task as they face the Panthers.

The Florida Panthers fell behind early in their Thursday night game against the Philadelphia Flyers and they couldn’t recover as they lost 4 -1.  Florida gave up 2 quick goals to open the game and that became too big a hole to climb out of.  Early in the 2nd, Philadelphia went up 3 – 0.  But midway through the period, Florida got a power play goal from Nick Bjugstad to cut the lead to 3 – 1.  The Flyers added their 4th goal less than 2 minutes later and that’s where the score would stay for the rest of the game.  Florida has had a problem scoring goals all season and their record reflects their futility.  Until they start getting the puck in the net with some regularity, they will continue to struggle.
