Friday night, the Calgary Flames will continue their road trip with a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Calgary Flames fought hard in their Wednesday night battle against the Chicago Blackhawks and the Flames were rewarded for their efforts with a 2 - 1 overtime victory.  The game was tight the entire way and the teams played a scoreless 1st quarter.  But Calgary scored first in the 2nd period and they were able to hold that lead until the 3rd period.  That’s when the Blackhawks tied it up and sent the game to overtime.  And in just a little over 4 minutes into the overtime period, Mikael Backlund scored the game winner for Calgary.   Despite the win, Calgary was outshot 50 to 18 and they allowed 7 power play opportunities.  It’s tough to win games with those numbers and the Flames will have to tighten things up against the Blue Jackets.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to get past the tough loss they suffered in their last game on Tuesday night.  In that meeting against the Dallas Stars, the Blue Jackets lost 4 – 2.  They gave up a hat trick but the rest of their numbers were pretty good.  They were 1 for 4 on the power play, committed just 2 penalties and won the battle of the faceoffs 42 - 32. If they had played some defense, they might have won.  The Flames aren’t a high scoring team and that could work to Columbus’s advantage if they clamp down more on Calgary than they did against Dallas.
