Buffalo has the dubious distinction of being the first team in the NHL to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs even though their 48 total points on the year suggested it was over a long time ago. The Canucks would love nothing more than to kick a team while they are down as they hold on to the faintest of Western Conference playoff hopes.
Betting against Buffalo has been a risk all season with the highest money lines for their opponents of any team in the NHL. In fact, the Sabres have only been favorites in 3 games all season long. That risk has been rewarded lately with Buffalo dropping 7 of 8 games. Puck line bettors who take the -1.5 goals have hit handsomely with 6 of those 7 losses being by at least 2 goals. Buffalo has won only 8 games on the road all season and Vancouver would love to keep that number where it is.
The Canucks trail the Coyotes by 5 points for the 8th spot in the Western Conference but with only 10 games remaining they need a Phoenix meltdown. All teams can do is control their own destiny and a victory over the hapless Sabres is next on the to-do list for Vancouver. The Canucks will be well rested with 3 full days off before Sundays game and they look to put this matchup out of reach early.
The teams met back in October with Vancouver receiving a valuable money line of only -133. Oddsmakers weren't aware of Buffalo's epic meltdown back then but bettors who were capitalized on a monumental +217 payout on the -1.5 puck line after Vancouvers 3-0 victory.
