The Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers haven't played each other since December, a game that the Rangers ended up winning 3-1. Not much has changed since then, though, as the Sabres are still in last place in the Atlantic division and the Rangers are still trying to get one of the top five playoff seeds in the Eastern Conference.

New York got their first goal in that December game when Rick Nash was able to score off of assists from Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh. After no goals were scored in the second period, Brad Richards put the Rangers up by two with a power-play strike, then Mats Zuccarello made it 3-0 a few minutes later. Tyler Ennis scored Buffalo's lone goal late in the third period, but it was too late for a comeback.

New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist was solid for the road team, saving 27 of Buffalo's 28 shots on goal for a .964 save percentage. This was the first game that Lundqvist played after signing a big seven-year contract to stay with the Rangers.

Richards was the Rangers' top offensive player in the game, scoring one goal and assisting on another. McDonagh finished the game with two assists.

Goalie Ryan Miller was the Sabres' top player on the ice, stopping 28 of the 31 shots he faced and keeping the game from getting out of hand.
