The last game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens resulted in a 2-0 shutout for the Canadiens. Rookie goaltender Dustin Tokarski was called up to replace multiple injured goalies for Montreal and rewarded them with his first NHL shutout. This was the first game that Montreal played after being the first NHL team to come back from being three goals down with under five minutes remaining to win a game.

All of the scoring was done in the first period in this one, with Dale Weise scoring his fourth of the season and Brendan Gallagher tallying his 17th. Buffalo had 27 shots in the game, so they certainly had their chances. They just couldn't find a way to get the puck past Tokarski.

The win helped the Canadiens move up in the standings in the East, while the Sabres stayed put at the bottom of the division. This was the sixth consecutive regulation loss in a row for Buffalo, their worst since they had a seven-game streak in 2003.

Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth had to leave the game in the second period after Gallagher collided into him in front of the net. Enroth stayed motionless on the ice for a few minutes, but was able to get to the bench under his own power. He did not return to the game and was replaced by Nathan Lieuwen.
