The Edmonton Oilers visited the Buffalo Sabres in early February and were able to escape a 3-2 winner. This game put the Oilers above the last place Sabres by six points and added to a little hot streak of their own, winning four out of five games. The Oilers out-shot the Sabres 44 to 28, they won 41 faceoffs to 29, and they landed almost double the hits. Penalties were a sore spot for both teams, with Edmonton racking up seven and Buffalo racking up six. Buffalo was able to score on one of the opportunities when Steve Ott got off a shot that beat Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who made 42 saves throughout the game.

Jeff Petry had the first goal of the game less than a minute into the first period, and he was assisted by Nail Yakupov and David  Perron. The third goal of the game came from the Sabres’ Drew Stafford, who put one in shorthanded with less than a minute to go in the period.

Two more goals landed for Edmonton. One of these goals came in the second period by Justin Schultz, assisted by David Perron and Andrew Ference. The other goal came in the third by newly acquired Matt Hendricks. Hendricks came from Nashville just two weeks earlier. This goal made Hendricks his second in the last nine games and gave the Oilers their 4-3 win.
