On Tuesday night, the struggling offense of the Buffalo Sabres will be going up against the Detroit Red Wings. In their first meeting this year, the Sabres defeated the Red Wings 3-2 in the shootout.

The Sabres gave up a late third-period lead to the Boston Bruins on Sunday night and ended up losing 4-3 in overtime. They were outshot 37-28 in that loss and allowed the Bruins to score on their only power play opportunity.

So far this season, the Sabres are near the bottom of the league in both scoring and power play percentage. Center Zemgus Girgensons currently leads the team in goals with eight, while center Tyler Ennis has a team-high 23 points. Netminder Jhonas Enroth has a 10-11-2 record this year with a .912 save percentage and a 3.05 GAA.

On Sunday night, the Red Wings lost their sixth game in a row when the Colorado Avalanche beat them 2-1 in the shootout. They lost despite going 1-for-4 on the power play in that game and outshooting the Avs 35-23.

Detroit’s defense has barely given up more than two goals per game this year, and they also have one of the best penalty kills in the league. Veteran goalie Jimmy Howard is now 13-5-7 on the season with a .921 save percentage and a 2.06 GAA. Their top point-getter is Henrik Zetterberg, who has six goals and 22 assists through 34 games.
