On Saturday night, the Buffalo Sabres will have a tough task on their hands when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago swept the two-game season series against the Sabres last season.

The Sabres played the Columbus Blue Jackets in their first game of the year on Thursday and ended up taking a 3-1 loss. Buffalo were outshot 40-22 in that loss and they failed to score on their only power-play opportunity.

In that loss against Columbus, 20-year-old center Zemgus Girgensons scored the lone goal for the Sabres and finished with a plus-1 on the night. Goalie Jhonas Enroth did give up three goals in that loss, but he finished with a solid .925 save percentage after stopping 37 shots.

Chicago went on the road on Thursday night and ended up with a 3-2 shootout win over the Dallas Stars. They won despite being outshot 34-26 in the game, but they only gave up one power play goal on Dallas' six PP opportunities.

The Blackhawks were led by goalie Corey Crawford in that opening win after he was able to stop 32 of the 34 shots he faced for a .941 save percentage. Left wing Patrick Sharp had six shots on goal in the game and finished with a goal and an assist. Defenseman Duncan Keith also chipped in win a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks.
