Tuesday night, the Buffalo Sabres take to the road as they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Sabres will take the ice at PNC Arena after hosting the Anaheim Ducks Monday night.  Back to back games early in the season are bad enough and when you throw travel into the mix, it makes a dangerous combination for a hockey team.  The Sabres haven’t been their best so far this season and if they come in flat against the Hurricanes, it could hurt their chances at picking up a win.  But the Hurricanes aren’t exactly playing inspired hockey themselves and this could turn into a battle of who wants the win more.

Carolina played hard in their last game but their effort wasn’t enough to add a win to their 0-2-0 record.  In their Saturday night game against the New York Islanders, they kept the game close all of the way.  After New York scored on the power play to take a 1 – 0 lead, the Hurricanes answered with a power play goal of their own to tie it up. And after New York took the lead again, Carolina responded again.  But Carolina ran out of steam in the 2nd as New York posted 2 unanswered goals to take a 4 - 2 lead.  By the time Carolina scored in the 3rd, it was too late.  Although the Hurricanes have excelled on the power play, they haven’t done much else in the other facets of the game.  If they want to beat the Sabres, they will need to get back to basics with some old fashioned offense and defense.
