This game pits two of the NHL's powerhouses up against each other. Patrick Roy is settling in to his new job as head coach nicely and the Colorado Avalanche seem to have everything going their way lately. The Boston Bruins are ready for a good postseason run as well.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere had 39 saves in his 37th NHL shutout, and helped Colorado stay perfect on the season while handing the Bruins a 2-0 loss when these 2 teams last faced off. Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask stopped 28 shots, but had no offensive help lead to the Bruins first shutout loss in 72 games. The first goal came with 40 seconds to go in the first. Ryan O'Reilly fed a shot through the net that passed through a lot of traffic and Rask had a hard time seeing it. The shot turned into a power-play goal for O'Reilly, assisted by Andre Benoit and Matt Duchene.

The second period was much the same, a lot of hard playing but no scoring. The third period went through another dry spell of scoring. In an attempt to take advantage of an extra man, the Bruins pulled Rask, but the move backfired. With 25.7 seconds left in the game, Matt Duchene, who had an assist on the first goal of the game, found the empty net to put the nail in the coffin for the Bruins.
