Thursday night, the Boston Bruins will travel to the First Niagara Center to take on the Buffalo Sabres.

The Boston Bruins gave up a big lead in their Tuesday night game and fell 4 - 3 to the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota took the 1 - 0 lead early in the 1st period but Boston responded with the tying goal late in the period.  The Bruins added 2 more in the 2nd to go into the 3rd up 3 - 1.  But the Bruins would suffer a monumental defensive collapse late and allow three 3rd period goals.  Minnesota outshot Boston 42 -28 with 18 of those shots coming in the 3rd.  The loss clearly showed how much the Bruins are missing injured defenseman Zdeno Chara.  If there is any consolation for the Bruins, it is that they will be facing a Sabres team that isn’t exactly an offensive juggernaut.

The Buffalo Sabres have had trouble scoring so far this season and the lack of offensive production was evident in their 4 -0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.  Neither team could light the lamp in the 1st period but Toronto managed to do it first late in the 2nd.  In the 3rd, they added 3 more goals as they faced very little opposition from the Sabres.  Buffalo had just a franchise low 10 shots on goal and they committed 8 penalties.  Buffalo’s defense is as bad as the offense and the team’s woes will continue until they straighten out the problems on both ends of the ice.
