The Los Angeles Kings were able to beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 the last time they faced each other in what was Marian Gaborik's first game with the team. Gaborik was traded to the Kings from the Columbus Blue Jackets the day before this game, and he must have liked what he came into despite not scoring in his debut.

Winnipeg's Olli Jokinen was the first to score, making it his 15th goal of the season 12 minutes into the first period. The Kings answered quickly with a Dustin Brown goal less than 45 seconds later. The Kings finished off the period with a 2-1 lead thanks to an unassisted goal by Mike Richards. Alec Martinez finished off the scoring for the road team with a power-play goal late in the third period.

Despite giving up three goals, Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec had a good game, saving 38 shots for a .927 save percentage on the night. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick didn't have as much work to do as Pavelec did, but he still had a solid outing by saving 17 of the 18 shots he faced.

After the Kings traded forward Matt Frattin and picks for Gaborik, they decided to slot him right into the first line with Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. Gaborik ended the game with 3 shots on goal and a -1 +/- in the win.
