Saturday night, the Anaheim Ducks will try for their first win of the year as they visit the Detroit Red Wings.

The Anaheim Ducks had plenty of opportunities in their season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they couldn’t seal the deal and fell 6 - 4.  After giving up 3 goals in the 1st, the Ducks got their legs under them and fought back.  Anaheim tied the game in the 2nd period but might have run out of gas pulling themselves out of a 3 – 0 hole.   Hockey fans know that 4 goal games and a Corey Perry hat trick don’t come along every night.  Especially against a strong team like the Penguins.  If the Ducks want to become a real contender this season, they will need to add some solid defense to go with that powerful offense that they are capable of putting on the ice each night. And against the Red Wings, defense will be a must.

The Detroit Red Wings battered a tired Boston Bruins team en route to a 2 -1 victory in their last game. After Boston took a 1 -0 lead in the 1st, Detroit lit the lamp twice in the 2nd to take over the game for good.  With Anaheim seeking their first win amidst a grueling 4 game road trip to start the season, Detroit can’t expect to find a tired team waiting for them again.  The Red Wings will not only need to establish control early, they will need to hold it. Anaheim has an offense that can score at will and Detroit will need to limit those scoring chances if they want to remain undefeated.
