The Anaheim Ducks may have been huge favorites the last time they faced off against the Calgary Flames, but it was Calgary who looked like the elite team that night. The Flames were able to take a 4-0 lead in the first period, which helped them cruise to a 7-2 home win.

Mark Giordano led off the scoring for the hosts, scoring his 11th goal of the season 3:39 into the first period. That was followed up by T.J. Galiardi's shorthanded goal a few minutes later. Mike Cammalleri would make it 3-0 later in the period with a power-play goal off of a slick pass from Mikael Backlund. Backlund would add the fourth of the period, which showed that the Ducks clearly underestimated Calgary from the start.

The second period was more of the same, with Backlund getting another tally and the team's second shorthanded goal of the game. Andrew Cogliano got one back for the Ducks, but Ladislav Smid was able to make it 6-1 Calgary near the end of the period. Nick Bonino scored his 17th of the season to bring Anaheim back within five, but Calgary rookie Corban Knight finished off the scoring with his first of the season.

Backlund was the clear star of the game for the hosts with two goals and an assist. The normally reliable Jonas Hiller had a tough night for the Ducks, as he let in three goals while only stopping two before being pulled for backup Frederik Andersen.
