2014 Atlanta Falcons Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
The Falcons were one of the NFL leaders in starts lost due to injury in 2013 as they fell victim to the Curse of the NFC South Champion. There has never been a repeat South champ in the group’s 12-year history. And after earning banners in 2010 and 2012, including a trip to the NFC Title Game, the Falcons bottomed out with just four wins last season.
2014 Baltimore Ravens Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
The Ravens suffered a serious Super Bowl hangover in 2013, failing to top .500 for the first time in five years after winning the 2012-13 championship. But with Ozzie Newsome restocking the shelves the Ravens remain one of the most well run and most talented organizations in all of football.
2014 Buffalo Bills Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
The Buffalo Bills are losers. And that type of stench is tough to clean off. Buffalo has not made the postseason since 1999, the longest streak in the NFL, and they have endured 15 years of the Flutie Curse. The Bills have finished over .500 just once in those 15 years and haven’t won more than seven games since 2004.
2014 Carolina Panthers Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
It all came together for Ron Rivera and Cam Newton in 2013 as the Panthers brain trust helped the franchise to nearly double its wins (seven to 12) from 2012 to 2013. They also earned a home playoff game and were one of the conference’s powers.
2014 Chicago Bears Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
Perhaps no team in the NFL has underachieved as much as the Chicago Bears over the past four years. Chicago has parlayed 37 regular season wins during that stretch into just one playoff berth. They have been eliminated on the final weekend of the season each of the past two years and have wasted excellent first halves with disaster stretch collapses in the past several campaigns.
2014 Cincinnati Bengals Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
From 1991 to 2004 the Cincinnati Bengals failed to produce a winning record or a playoff berth. But last year’s 11-win campaign marked the third straight year with nine or more wins, and the fourth time in five years, for this one moribund franchise. They are clearly no longer league doormats and instead enter the season with heightened expectations.
2014 Dallas Cowboys Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
Truthfully, I think that Dallas is one of the worst teams in the NFL this year. Their odds will always be inflated because they are the most public team in the league. But this team is awful and when I scan the roster I see a five-win team, at best.
2014 Denver Broncos Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
There is generally little or no money to be made betting on the season win total of teams like the Denver Broncos. They are coming off a 13-win season and a trip to the Super Bowl. They have the highest season win total number on the board (along with Seattle) and because of Peyton Manning they are a very public, square team for bettors to wager on. I normally ignore these teams, just like I usually stay away from the two or three bottom feeder teams with the lowest season win totals. The value just isn’t there.
2014 Green Bay Packers Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
Over the past five years the Packers have essentially morphed into a poor man’s version of the New England Patriots. Both teams are riding five-year playoff streaks and each has made a Super Bowl appearance during that stretch. Their records are similar (55-24-1 for Green Bay versus 61-19 for New England) and both squads enter this season as prohibitive favorites to win their division. Finally, at the heart of each franchise is a talented coach and an all-time great quarterback.
2014 San Diego Chargers Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2014
San Diego was a surprise playoff team in Mike McCoy’s rookie coaching season. They snapped a three-year streak of failing to live up to their preseason wins expectations and even won their first postseason game since 2008. As a result they won’t be sneaking up on anyone this year and will have to scrap their way to another winning season.
Free NFL Picks: 49ers at Seahawks Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/16/2014
Is this the greatest final four in the NFL playoffs this century? I'd definitely make the argument that it is indeed as it's pretty clearly the best four teams remaining -- and the four preseason Super Bowl favorites. You have the greatest individual rivalry of this generation in the AFC Championship Game as future Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady face off for the 15th time and perhaps last in the playoffs with both QBs on the downside of their unbelievable careers.
Free NFL Picks: 49ers at Panthers Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/8/2014
In my opinion, no game is more evenly matched in the NFL's divisional round than the 49ers at Panthers on Sunday, and that's indicative in that this line is the only one under a touchdown as of this writing. But the teams really are mirror images. They are very physical on both sides of the ball and would just as soon pound the ball on the ground than throw it.
Free NFL Picks: Saints at Eagles Playoff Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/2/2014
Tough picking which game to preview on wild-card weekend. You have the Chiefs at Colts, a rematch of a game won rather surprisingly easily by Indianapolis 23-7 in Kansas City on Dec. 22. The Chargers visit a Cincinnati team that looks unstoppable at home; San Diego is incredibly lucky to be there. If Kansas City kicker Ryan Succop hadn't missed a potential 41-yard winning field goal last weekend in San Diego, the Bolts, who won in overtime, wouldn't be in the playoffs (Pittsburgh would).
Free NFL Picks: Ravens at Bengals Week 17 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/24/2013
The Baltimore Ravens are the only team in the NFL to win a playoff game each of the past five seasons, but that streak is in major jeopardy on Sunday should Baltimore lose at Cincinnati. The Bengals have been dominant at home this season and also have something to play for despite having clinched the AFC North.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Falcons at 49ers Week 16 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/20/2013
When the NFL schedule was released in the spring, the "Monday Night Football" finale between the Falcons and 49ers looked like one of the games of the year. It was to be a rematch of the 2012 NFC Championship Game -- won in thrilling fashion by the Niners at the Georgia Dome -- as well as the final regular-season game at historic but ancient Candlestick Park. One of those is still true.
Free NFL Picks: Patriots at Ravens Week 16 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/18/2013
The NFL really got it right in Week 16 as there are only three games that involve two teams with no playoff chances: Tampa Bay at St. Louis, Cleveland at the NY Jets and Tennessee at Jacksonville. I was planning to preview the flexed prime-time game between the Bears and Eagles in Philly, but I opted for Patriots-Ravens for a few reasons. First, the Eagles might not have anything to play for. Should Dallas win early Sunday in Washington, the Week 17 Eagles at Cowboys game will be for the NFC East no matter what Philly does against Chicago.
Monday Night Football Picks: Ravens at Lions Week 15 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/12/2013
The Monday Night Football schedule stunk for the first eight weeks or so but has rallied nicely of late, and the penultimate MNF game of the season this week, Ravens at Lions, is arguably the most intriguing matchup of Week 15. Enjoy it because the finale next week, Falcons at Niners, should be a blowout.
Free NFL Picks: Chargers at Broncos Week 15 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/10/2013
I'm assuming NFL players don't celebrate when players on other teams get hurt, but I don't think the Broncos are all that heartbroken that the Patriots lost Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski to a season-ending injury on Sunday. That obviously hugely weakens New England, which is a game behind Denver for the top seed in the AFC but holds the tiebreaker. Gronk's loss makes it more likely that New England loses this week at Miami or next at Baltimore, so Denver is looking good for that top seed.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Cowboys at Bears Week 14 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/5/2013
In my opinion, if you were to rank the most popular teams in the NFL since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys might be Nos. 1-2. I think the only team that might squeeze out one of the two would be Green Bay, but it's close. The Bears had perhaps the most popular team in league history, the 1985 “Super Bowl Shuffle” champions. Dallas is of course known as “America's Team”.
Free NFL Picks: Texans at Jaguars Odds for Week 14
by Alan Matthews - 12/3/2013
They say the NFL is ratings gold, that the matchup doesn't matter and people will watch because it's football. I'm guessing that will be put to the test in a big way this Thursday night when Houston visits Jacksonville, a matchup of teams a combined 5-19. It will still probably win the night because sports-wise there's not much else.
