Week 8 NFL Picks: Best 6-Point Teaser Bets from Handicapper Doug Upstone
Have to admit to being extremely pleased to deliver another 4-0 sweep on NFL teasers, making you and I money every way possible and lifting record to 22-6. This climbs us ever close to my goal of 80 percent, which really brings in the cash. We have big spreads this week, which hurts us from the value perspective. However, after putting in some extra time, I like this week's plays.
For those new to this space, I'm the newest member of the sports handicapping team at Doc's Sports, and it will take a while for many of you learn what I am about and my sports betting style. With that in mind for prior readers, I'm going to leave the key points of how, in my opinion, is the best way to bet teasers against the NFL odds . This is a condensed version of the most pertinent information for your usage for NFL picks, which is after all four plays.
Below are my Week 8 NFL teaser predictions.
N.Y. Giants at Detroit - Oct. 27 - Lions Taken From -7 to -1 over Giants
After starting 2-0-1, Detroit has lost three in a row to tumble into last place in the NFC North. The problem has been the lack of fourth quarter defense and not making that one big play on offense. However, it should be noted those defeats came against Kansas City, Green Bay and Minnesota, who are a combined 16-5 this season. The Lions take a drop in class and face the rebuilding 2-5 New York Giants . I like the fact Matthew Stafford affords his team more ways to score than the G-Men with their rookie quarterback, Daniel Jones, and we plow through the key numbers 3 and 6 . Research finds teams at -0.5 or -1 on the teaser line, with a regular total of 48-to-49, are 23-2.
Doug's Doc's NFL Picks: Lions -1
Denver at Indianapolis - Oct. 27 - Colts Taken From -6 to PK over Broncos
It is not hard to want to back Indianapolis if you saw how Denver played at home against Kansas City. Joe Flacco is the latest ineffective quarterback John Elway has brought in, and the results speak for themselves. With Indianapolis having a top-notch offensive line and Marlon Mack toting the rock, Houston's game plan last week was to make Colts QB Jacoby Brissett beat them with the pass. That strategy blew up in the Texans' faces as Brissett threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns. I welcome the chance to grab the Colts as a PK since the last 10 times, the Broncos have scored 17 points or fewer in two straight games, they were beaten by 9.4 PPG in following outing.
Doug's Doc's NFL Picks: Colts Pick
Carolina at San Francisco - Oct. 27 - Panthers Taken From +5.5 to +11.5 over 49ers
We are going with the flow in this NFC encounter. San Francisco is 6-0, yet you can tell coach Kyle Shanahan still has trust issues with Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers have a strong offensive line and depend on them, rushing for a league-high 40 times a game. Baltimore approaches that number at almost 37attempts, however, Garoppolo isn't Lamar Jackson as a runner. That is why having the chance to go by the key numbers of 6, 7 and 10 to grab Carolina, who is on a 4-0 SU and ATS streak, is quite inviting. Also, like that the Panthers are 18-2 on teasers against the Niners, which includes 10-0 when wearing the road uniforms.
Doug's Doc's NFL Picks: Panthers + 11.5
Oakland at Houston - Oct. 27 - Texans Taken From -7 to -1 over Raiders
Houston was beefed up from -5.5 to -7 over Oakland at home, and we are fine with that. The Texans 11th-rated passing attack can improve its standing versus the Raiders No. 30 pass defense, which was lit up like a Fourth of July fireworks display by Aaron Rodgers for 429 yards. QB Deshaun Watson has the weapons at his disposal to have a big day. And despite Jon Gruden doing a masterful job in play-calling, I'm essentially only asking Houston to win the game. With the Texans 28-3 against a teaser line vs. defensive teams who give up 24 or more points a game, like our chances.
Doug's Doc's NFL Picks: Texans -1
Doug Upstone's NFL Teasers Method - Betting NFL teasers is not about taking off points in games you like, rather creating value going against key numbers. Those key numbers I am talking about are 3, 6, 7, 10, 13 and 14. This is the real secret to beating the oddsmakers NFL odds for teasers.
The other key component is betting wisely. Limiting your teasers to two, three or four-team groupings, that enhances your chances of winning. With most four-team teasers paying out about $240 on $100 bet when you go to a five-teamer that jumps to +365 and keeps rising as you add more games.
Along with that so does your chances of not winning. How often have you bet teasers and parlays of six or more and only had one wrong? My guess is too often. Long shots do come in, but more often than not the money won only pays for all previous losses.
