2019 Los Angeles Rams Odds to win the Super Bowl with Expert Betting Predictions
Of all the storylines in the NFL this year, one of the most fascinating from where I sit is how the Rams respond. They got thoroughly and completely humbled in the Super Bowl after such a great year. If you hadn't watched the game, then 13-3 score wouldn't seem awful, but it was far more lopsided than that. And on top of that, their win in the NFC Championship was hollow in that it was so heavily aided by the officials' incompetence. They still have plenty of talent and potential, but we have seen several teams that have had a postseason setback and just haven't been the same the next year. It's a big challenge for this coaching staff.
Los Angeles Rams Coaching
Sean McVay hasn't done too much to change his coaching staff this year, focusing on what worked for much of the year instead of what didn't at the end. He lost Zac Taylor, his quarterback coach, who is now the head coach of the Bengals. Pass game coordinator Shane Waldron has taken on the QB role as well, and, in order to keep the Zac quota balanced, Zac Robinson has been added as assistant QB coach. Jedd Fisch, who has bounced between teams like a rubber ball in recent years, was an offensive consultant last year but has been elevated to assistant offensive coordinator - whatever that means.
Los Angeles Rams Quarterback Situation
Jared Goff is obviously back and in charge of this team - and that's a positive thing. His backup last year, though, was Sean Mannion, and he has joined the Vikings in the same role. In his place there is a group of guys looking to replace him. Blake Bortles is the leader of the group, here on a very cheap deal after flaming out so badly in Jacksonville. Brandon Allen has been around the Rams the last two years, though he hasn't made the active roster in that time. He could wind up on the practice roster again. And John Wolford was the offensive player of the week twice in the eight-week history of the AAF last year, and he will be looking to prove that that can translate to a league that still exists.
How The Los Angeles Rams Improved
The team didn't pick until the end of the second round of the draft, but they really got value when they did pick. They particularly got value in the secondary, adding safety Taylor Rapp from USC in the second round and corner David Long from Michigan in the third. Both guys have serious upside. Safety Eric Weddle and linebacker Clay Matthews were both reasonably affordable veteran free agent signings who could be bargains if they prove to still have something left in the tank.
How The Los Angeles Rams Got Worse
They lost OG Roger Saffold in free agency and are facing some real changes on the offensive line, with two likely first-time starters. With Todd Gurley's effectiveness uncertain, the pressure is on the offensive line to be as strong as they can be, and this is more of a question mark than is ideal.
Los Angeles Rams Schedule Analysis
The Rams open at Carolina then host the Saints before going to Cleveland, so we will have a very good sense of where this team is at and what impact last year had within the first three weeks of the year. Beyond that, the schedule is as tough as you would expect in this league but also more manageable than some out there. If they struggle this year, they won't have the schedule to blame.
2019-20 Los Angeles Rams Betting Odds and Trends
At +1100, the Rams are the fourth choice to win the Super Bowl, trailing the Patriots, Chiefs and Saints. They are the co-favorites along with the Saints to win the NFC at +500 and are the strong -175 favorites to win the NFC West. The season win total is set at 10, with the "over" favored at -125. They are -330 to make the playoffs and +275 to miss them. They are the +700 second choice to have the best record in the league and at +15000 to have the worst record. On the awards front, Goff is a bit of a bargain at +3300 to win the MVP, Aaron Donald is the +300 second choice to be defensive player of the year behind only Khalil Mack, Cooper Kupp is the fifth choice to win comeback player of the year at +1600, and McVay is tied with Bill Belichick as the third choice at +1200 to be named coach of the year. If you hate money, you can also bet that McVay will be the first coach fired at +10000. The odds suggest that only Belichick is less likely to be fired. Goff is at +2200 to lead the league in passing yards, +1800 in touchdowns, and +2500 to be tops in interceptions. Kupp is at +4000 to lead the league in receiving touchdowns, with Brandin Cooks at +5000 and Robert Woods at +8000. Gurley is favored to lead the league in rushing touchdowns at +600, the +650 favorite to lead in total touchdowns, and at +1200 to lead in yards. Donald is the +300 favorite to lead the league in sacks.
2019-20 Los Angeles Rams Predictions and NFL Picks
I'm concerned about this team after how last year ended, but I still have them marked down in pen to win the division. They are just so much better than the other three teams in the group, and their coaching staff is creative and able to adapt. The over on the season win total feels fairly comfortable given the schedule as well.
