2019 Cincinnati Bengals Odds to win the Super Bowl with Expert Betting Predictions
Have you ever had that thing where you wanted something so badly for so long, and then when you get it you feel a little lost because you don't know what to do next? Thanks to the Bengals, that is where I find myself. For so long Marvin Lewis was the target all my disrespect and dislike. He spent years tagged as the worst coach in all of football in my eyes - and he had seven pathetic wild card losses and countless criminal charges from his players to prove it. They should have fired him nine years ago, but this was finally the offseason when his blackmail didn't work anymore, and he was shipped out. It isn't likely to pay off in the short term because this is a very bad roster, but it is unquestionably a positive thing - even if I have to find a new coach to pick on. I've got my eyes on you, Dan Quinn.
Cincinnati Bengals Coaching
Zac Taylor had the only thing going for him that you needed to get hired this offseason - he knows Sean McVay. Taylor, a former QB at Nebraska, is a long way from proven. He was the QB coach for the Dolphins and served as interim OC for five games. When that ended, he wound up running the offense at the University of Cincinnati for a year before becoming assistant wide receiver coach at the Rams in 2017 and QB coach last year. It's not a standard path, to say the least. But the team couldn't have picked a more different guy than Lewis if they tried. And that may be a good thing as long as Taylor can prove that he is up to this task. His offensive coordinator is Brian Callahan, another young guy who has never been a coordinator in the NFL. I don't love that hire. Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is older but also hasn't been a full-time coordinator. He was with Taylor at Miami, though, and was interim DC when Taylor was interim OC after Joe Philbin was fired. Given Taylor's youth and inexperience, I sure would have liked to see more experience elsewhere.
Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Situation
Andy Dalton is back from injury and ready for another go. It's hard to get too excited about that at this point. Jeff Driskel started five games last year after Dalton hurt his thumb. He was a long way from spectacular but is back again this year. The QB room is rounded out by a couple of rookies - Ryan Finley from NC State was a fourth-round pick, and Jake Dolegala from Central Connecticut was an undrafted free agent. I probably don't need to say that this is a long way from a good group.
How The Cincinnati Bengals Improved
This isn't a particularly long list. They drafted OT Jonah Williams from Alabama 11th overall, and he will be relied upon to improve an offensive line that was not good last year. It won't hurt but probably isn't enough. And Germaine Pratt, a linebacker from NC State who they got in the third round, will have the chance to step in and prove himself because the team did the right thing and sent Vontaze Burfict packing.
How The Cincinnati Bengals Got Worse
Taylor will bring a lot of changes to this offense, but he doesn't have a ton of weapons to work with, and it really feels like it is going to take a while for this offense to get where it needs to be. It didn't improve enough, and neither did the defense.
Cincinnati Bengals Schedule Analysis
The play only one home game in their first four, so by the second time the fans get to see their boys, the season could already be mostly over. In Week 8 the fans on London are unfortunate enough to have to watch them, and they will see them get crushed by Taylor's most recent former employer. The schedule isn't as tough as some, but it is still against NFL teams, so it will largely be too much for this team.
2019-20 Cincinnati Bengals Betting Odds and Trends
The Bengals are tied with Washington at +10000 to win the Super Bowl. Only Miami has longer odds. They are also the second longest shots to win the AFC at +5000 and are far behind the pack at +1400 to win the AFC North. Baltimore, the third choice in the division, is at +300. Their season win total is set at a dismal 5.5, with the "over" favored at -125. The odds suggest that they are all but a lock to miss the playoffs - they are at -800 to miss them and +600 to make them. They are at +25000 to have the best record in the league and +800 to have the worst, so one is obviously far more likely than the other. Hardware isn't too likely - Andy Dalton, at +10000 to win the MVP, is the only player listed in any awards futures. Dalton is at +10000 to lead the league in passing yards, +5000 in touchdowns, and +2000 in interceptions. The lone bright spot offensively is Joe Mixon, who is tied with Le'Veon Bell as the third choice to lead the league in rushing yards at +1000.
2019-20 Cincinnati Bengals Predictions and NFL Picks
If I had to list three things I like about this team right now, I would be sitting here for a while. A bad team with a big rebuild sitting in front of them. The best thing that could happen this year is that the team realizes that Dalton isn't the future and accepts that they need to make a change.
