2019 Buffalo Bills Odds to win the Super Bowl with Expert Betting Predictions
The Buffalo Bills made the playoffs - barely - in 2017, but that was the only time since 1999 that they had been there. Last year was a mess, though, and it is a long way from a lock that this year will be any better. Trying to become relevant in the AFC East has apparently been the hardest job in sports the last two decades, and that may continue again. Buffalo is trying to improve, but it is not a smooth or fast process.
Buffalo Bills Coaching
Somehow making the playoffs in his first year in 2017 bought Sean McDermott some good will, but he burned a fair bit of it with his lousy 6-10 year last year. He's back again, but his leash is short this year. He has made some changes on the bottom end of the offensive side of his staff, but I'm surely not the only one who can't get too excited about the arrival of Ken Dorsey as the savior at QB coach.
Buffalo Bills Quarterback Situation
Josh Allen is back for a second year after a rookie season that was inconsistent at best. He started only 11 games, and he didn't complete enough passes, but he had a three-game stretch of at least 95 rushing yards per game, so he can be dangerous. There is some upside for sure here, but how much remains to be seen. Matt Barkley is back for another year and has a new two-year deal. He was with the team last year and had one start when Allen was hurt. It was a solid game, with a 60 percent completion rate and two touchdowns in a dominant win. Don't make the mistake of believing that Barkley is relevant, though. They also added undrafted free agent Tyree Jackson, who starred in college nearby at Buffalo, for depth - though it remains to be seen how much public goodwill the team chooses to milk by keeping him around. It's not the best quarterback room in the league by any means.
How The Buffalo Bills Improved
They needed to make the offense much better. And they certainly made a bunch of changes - they could have as many as seven different offensive starters depending on how things break down in the preseason. But it remains to be seen how much better they are given the guys they brought in, largely going for good gambles - Cole Beasley and John Brown at receiver, for example, or Frank Gore and T.J. Yeldon at running back - than blue chip guys. They drafted well, though, getting nice value in Ed Oliver at ninth, G Cody Ford in the second round, and running back Devin Singletary in the third.
How The Buffalo Bills Got Worse
The offense is different, but is it better? And is Josh Allen good enough, or ready enough, to lead this team where it wants to be?
Buffalo Bills Schedule Analysis
Opening at the Jets and Giants then at home against the Bengals is a good chance to get off to a winning start. New England will then be tough, but a trip to Tennessee is another manageable opportunity before bye week. They need to be above .500 at that bye or they are in trouble. Things get brutal near the end of the year, though, as starting in Week 13 they play at Dallas, host Baltimore, and visit Pittsburgh and New England. Ouch.
2019-20 Buffalo Bills Betting Odds and Trends
The Bills are at +6600 to win the Super Bowl, which ties them with the Lions, Giants and Bucs, and puts them behind 24 other teams. Needless to say, they aren't perceived as a top contender. They are the third longest shot to win the AFC at +4000 and are the third choice to win the AFC East at +1000 - though they are in a different stratosphere than the favored Patriots at -400. The season win total sits at 7.5, with the "over" favored at -130. The "no" side is heavily favored when it comes to making the playoffs at -450, with the "yes" at +360. The team is +10000 to have the best record in the league and a much lower +1000 to have the worst record. Josh Allen is a real long shot to lead the league in yards at +15000. He's the same price when it comes to being tops in touchdowns, and a much lower +1200 to be tops in interceptions thrown. Top receivers John Brown and Zay Jones are both at +15000 to lead the league in touchdown receptions.
2019-20 Buffalo Bills Predictions and NFL Picks
I guess they should be a little better than they were last year. But they aren't playoff good - or particularly close to it. So, 6-10 should become maybe 7-9 or even 8-8 if all comes together well. But it could also go to 5-11 and no one would be too surprised. This is a very forgettable team right now.
