2019 Arizona Cardinals Odds to win the Super Bowl with Expert Betting Predictions
The one thing we can be sure of is that the Arizona Cardinals are not going to be boring this year. And that really is something. It has been since Kurt Warner was in town that the squad was consistently fun to watch - except, perhaps, for a few games with Carson Palmer here or there. This team might not be good, and they are still very much a work in progress, but they are going to try some stuff on offense that will make your eyes pop out of your head. It will either be amazing or an amazing train wreck. And either one will make for good watching.
Arizona Cardinals Coaching
What has changed on the coaching front? Absolutely everything. Steve Wilks was in charge of the team for just one year, and his defensive approach just didn't gain traction as the squad went 3-13. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy didn't even make it through the whole season, either. The team felt like they needed a big change, and they certainly made one. Kliff Kingsbury is the exact opposite of Wilks - a flamboyant, creative offense mind who doesn't even know that defense exists. One of the few guys who stuck around from last year is Jeff Rodgers, who was special teams coordinator last year, and has added the assistant head coach title. Kingsbury will be calling offensive plays, but he has named a coordinator to do the day-to-day duties. That is Tom Clements, who was a longtime assistant for Mike McCarthy in Green Bay and has been out of the NFL the last two seasons. And the defensive coordinator, who will have much more autonomy, is Vance Joseph, who just had a couple of lousy years as head coach in Denver, but he had a really strong year running Miami's defense in 2016. It's a fine enough staff, but it will all obviously depend upon how well Kingsbury can adapt to a league he has never played or coached in.
Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Situation
Fresh off having drafted Josh Rosen to be their QB of the future, the team has again changed course. And it was done in about the only way you could justify. Kyler Murray is a truly freakish talent, and what he did at Oklahoma last year is beyond incredible. Whether he can adapt his game to the NFL is an open question, but taking a risk on a guy as special as him - especially after investing in a coach like Kingsbury - is an easy gamble to justify. To back up Murray, they have brought in Brett Hundley, who was with Seattle last year and in Green Bay for years before that. Also around is Chad Kanoff, who was on the practice roster last year and could wind up there again.
How The Arizona Cardinals Improved
Getting Murray is an upgrade, and that isn't a shot at Rosen. He was the first of 11 draft picks this year, and it's a pretty solid group. Corner Byron Murphy from Washington was a serious value at the top of the second round. Receiver Andy Isabella from UMass is very interesting at the end of the second round as a fast, productive hands guy. And safety Deionte Thompson from Alabama is a solid fifth round value pick. Beyond that, free agency wasn't massively productive, but they added some nice value pieces here and there - D.J. Swearinger as a talented guy with serious baggage.
How The Arizona Cardinals Got Worse
Really, it's tough to tell at this point. It could prove out that the whole move to Kingsbury and Murray was a horrible idea. Probably not, but maybe.
Arizona Cardinals Schedule Analysis
Three of their first five games are against Detroit, Carolina, and Cincinnati, and they play the Giants two games later, so there are plenty of winnable games to start. If the squad could get up to 4-4 through the first half, they would be in good position. Their bye comes in week 12, and the rest of the schedule is just ugly - Rams, Pittsburgh and Cleveland at home, then at Seattle and the Rams again. If the team is vulnerable at that point, things could really go poorly.
2019-20 Arizona Cardinals Betting Odds and Trends
The Cardinals are at +8000 to win the Super Bowl, which puts them ahead of only three teams. They are tied with the Redskins as the longest shot on the board at +5000 to win the NFC and are at +2500 to win the NFC West. The season win total is at 5.5, with the "over" well favored at -130. They are +700 to make the playoffs and -1000 to miss them. They are at +25000 to have the best record in the league and are the second choice at +800 to have the worst record. Murray is the heavy +160 favorite to be the offensive rookie of the year, and you can even bet him at +5000 to be the MVP if you are really on his bandwagon. Murphy is at +2800 to be the defensive rookie of the year. Kingsbury is at +3300 to be coach of the year and +2000 to be the first coach fired this year. Murray is at +3300 to lead the league in passing yards, +8000 to lead in passing TDs, and he is one of five guys tied at +900 as the favorite to lead the league in interceptions thrown. Larry Fitzgerald is a long shot at +12500 to lead the league in receiving touchdowns, and Christian Kirk is at +15000. David Johnson is at +2500 to lead the league in rushing yards and +1800 in touchdowns.
2019-20 Arizona Cardinals Predictions and NFL Picks
I really don't know what to expect with this team. I am generally bullish when it comes to Murray and Kingsbury, but I'm not sure just how long it is going to take for things to find their stride. And even if things go well, the defense could still be an issue - though Joseph will be good at getting everything there is to get out of the team. The schedule is tough, but I still like the over on the win total. Mostly, though, I am just more excited to watch this team than almost any other because of the potential for crazy fun.
