2017 Season Win Total Pick: 'Under'
I said prior to last season that it would be a miracle if the Browns won more than two games and that they had a better chance of going 0-16 than they did of beating their season win total. It was clear to me that the Browns would be "breathtakingly bad", and that was exactly the case as Cleveland fielded one of the worst teams of the past quarter century.
Last season was kind of par for the course for Cleveland, which has now won four or fewer games in four of the last six seasons and five or fewer in eight of the past nine. Somehow they have seen their win total decrease each of the past two seasons, and they have to hope that last season was truly rock bottom.
The 2016 Browns were outscored by an average of 12 points per game last season. So they have a lot of ground to make up. That being said, Cleveland was randomly competitive last season. They 100 percent should've beaten the Ravens in Week 2. They lost two overtime games to Miami and Pittsburgh. And they lost a pair of games to the Jets and Giants despite outgaining both.
The Browns shuffled a lot of deck chairs on this titanic calamity during the offseason. But I don't know that they truly got any better. Right now the depth chart has them starting nine players that are either rookies or second-year guys. Their 53-man roster will be one of the youngest in football, and that includes second-year quarterback Cody Kessler, who is pathetic.
Cleveland still sucks. And they will likely be underdogs in at least 14 of their games this season. They should be better, statistically, than last year's team. But not by much. I see them pulling off a couple of upsets this season, and I can see them getting to three wins. But I would be absolutely stunned if this garbage fire managed to burn its way to five wins. Stunned.
