The Philadelphia Eagles matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday at The Georgia Dome. The opening line for this matchup has the Eagles as 2 point favorites and the over/under was set at 54.5. The Eagles had an ATS record of 9-7-0 last year, which meant they covered the spread 56% of the time. Their over/under record was 11-5-0. The Falcons covered the spread 44% of the time, finishing the campaign with an ATS record of 7-9-0. Their over/under record was 6-10-0.
Injury prone quarterback Sam Bradford gets the start for the Eagles, and Chip Kelly is throwing all of his eggs in that basket after trading Nick Foles in the offseason for Bradford. In the 3rd preseason game for Philadelphia, Bradford completed 10 of 10 passes for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns against mostly 1st team defenders from the Green Bay Packers. Even though optimism is high on his skill set, his injury concerns may be an issue this season for the Eagles. DeMarco Murray hopes to take some of the pressure off Bradford after coming over in the offseason. Last season behind the Cowboys massive offensive line, Murray had a career season. He ran for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns. Although his numbers may not equal his 2014 campaign, Eagle fans are excited to see what he's going to bring to the table offensively. Jordan Matthews will be Bradford's most experienced target in the air. Last year Matthews had 67 receptions for 872 yards. He'll need to replace the season that Jeremy Maclin had last year, because he signed with Kansas City in the offseason.
Matt Ryan once again will lead the Falcons into the 2015 season. Ryan is coming off another good season, passing for 4,694 yards with 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He completed 415 of 628 passes for a completion percentage of 66%. He's got a new weapon in starting running back Tevin Coleman. The rookie out of Indiana has a tremendous burst, and should fit in quite well with the Falcons spread offense. Coleman had a good preseason, and with an injury to Devonta Freeman, the job may be his to win. Julio Jones will be Ryan's top returning receiver. Jones caught 104 passes for 1,593 yards last season, and he just signed a new contract extension with the Falcons. Roddy White is another weapon if healthy, but he's already been a little dinged up this preseason. Although he's probable for Week 1, he'll be hard to rely on unless he begins to show that he can stay healthy for an entire season.
