The New York Giants face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. The opening line for this matchup has the Cowboys as 5 point favorites and the over/under was set at 51. The Giants had a 7-9-0 ATS record last season, meaning they covered the spread 44% of the time. Their over/under record was 10-6-0. The Cowboys finished with an ATS record of 11-7-0, covering the spread 61% of the time. Their over/under record finished at 9-8-1.
Eli Manning leads the Giants into this year after having an outstanding 2014 campaign. Manning threw for 4,410 yards with 30 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions. He completed 379 of 601 passes as well, resulting in a completion percentage of 63%. The biggest change with Eli are the interception numbers. In 2013 Manning threw a career high 27 interceptions, and there were rumbles that he was on a downward slide. It helped that he had one of the league's best wide receivers to throw to last year in Odell Beckham. Beckham hauled in 91 catches for 1,301 yards in 2014, resulting in 108 yards per game because he only played in 12 games. After an offseason of hype including being put on the Madden 2015 cover, Beckham is ready to take his place among the leagues elite pass catchers this season. Rashad Jennings will handle a lot of the running game for the Giants this season. Last year, Jennings ran for 639 yards on 167 carries. His 3.8 rushing average will be a cause for concern, however. The Giants are hoping improvements to their offensive line will help them establish a better ground attack. Josh Brown returns as the kicker for New York. Last season he made 24 of 26 field goals, including 4 of 4 on kicks over 50 yards.
The Cowboys enter the season with most of their team intact other than DeMarco Murray. Murray left the Cowboys for division rival Philadelphia, so Tony Romo will be once again burdened with carrying the Dallas offense. Romo finished 2014 with 3,705 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, and only 9 interceptions. He completed 304 of 435 passes for a completion percentage of 70%. He'll get his top receiver from last year back in Dez Bryant. Bryant had 88 receptions last season for 1,320 yards. He also had a career high 16 touchdowns. Losing Murray will definitely hurt the running game, but Dallas returns one of the best offensive lines in football. The running back by committee group will be led by Joseph Randle. Last season Randle only had 343 yards, but most of that was because of Murray. His 6.7 yards per carry average is evidence he may be able to shine in his new role.
