2015 San Diego Chargers Opponents and Schedule Highlights
by Guy Bruhn - 2/14/2015
Let’s take a look at the San Diego Chargers 2015 opponents and schedule highlights. The NFL will release schedule dates and games times later in April, but we do know who the Chargers will have to play.
The San Diego Chargers made a lot of changes prior to the 2014 season, so it's no surprise that they had their ups and downs. They only had one bad loss (37-0 against the Miami Dolphins on the road), so a 9-7 record wasn't actually too bad. They had a strong passing game and an above-average defense, but their running game was one of the worst in the league.
Home: Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions
Away: Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings
The Chargers, led by their young and improving defense, will have a middle-of-the-road strength of schedule this season. Here are three of the matchups to keep an eye on:
Denver Broncos: The Broncos are the team to beat in the AFC West, so the Chargers will want to end their struggles against their division rival. Denver has now beaten them in six out of their last seven meetings, including a two-game sweep in 2014.
Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers have been one of the teams that San Diego has never had an easy time beating. Pittsburgh has taken eight of the last 10 meetings between these two teams, but the Chargers did win the most recent matchup in 2012. Both teams rely on their passing games, but San Diego may actually have the advantage in this one because they had the much better pass defense last season.
Oakland Raiders: If the Chiefs play in as many close games against their tougher opponents as they did in 2014, then they will need to handle the teams they are expected to beat. That means they probably need to sweep the Raiders, which makes these games much more interesting than some people may think.
