2014 Season Win Total Pick: 'Over'
Are the Patriots still in the AFC East, surrounded by bumbling idiots? Yes. Do the Patriots still have Bill Belichick and Tom Brady leading the way? Yes. Then you can bank on the Patriots to win their division and beat their season win total for the fifth straight season.
The Patriots are immune to the normal fluctuations of the modern NFL. They have won 10 or more games in 11 straight seasons, making the playoffs in 10 of those years. And no matter how many new faces come and go this team is always one of the best in the business.
It is easy to forget that the Patriots won 12 games last year despite dealing with the Aaron Hernandez tragedy and a rash of injuries to key starters. This offseason has been much quieter and more productive. And if this team can have better luck on the injury front they will boast one of the best starting 22's in the game.
The Patriots have the benefit of crossing over against the AFC West - one of the weaker divisions in football - and New England should pick up at least three wins there. They will win at least five divisional games. They should also take three games from the NFC North since they get Chicago and Detroit at home. The swing games come against Cincinnati (in a revenge spot) and at Indianapolis. I feel comfortable projecting 12 wins on that schedule.
No one ever made a living consistently betting against Brady and Belichick. I won't try to get cute with this one and predict some sort of down season. The Patriots are one of the best bets in football and I have nothing but confidence that they'll find the cash here as well. Take the 'over'.
