2014 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Under'
The Cowboys suck. The end.
Truthfully, I think that Dallas is one of the worst teams in the NFL this year. Their odds will always be inflated because they are the most public team in the league. But this team is awful and when I scan the roster I see a five-win team, at best.
Dallas has not won over eight games in four seasons, posting three straight 8-8 campaigns. Yet every year they bilk people into believing that they are a contender in the NFC. They are not. And contrary to popular belief it is actually not (all) Tony Romo's fault.
Romo is a solid NFL quarterback. Deep down he is a habitual loser that will always come up short in the clutch. But he is still in the top dozen NFL signal callers. Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are also among the elite players at their respective positions. But the problem for this team is that beyond a handful of guys the Cowboys are loaded with average and below average starters and the depth on this team has been nonexistent for years now.
There is a decent chance that Dallas won't win a game in the opening month of the season. Even if they beat in-state rival Houston in Week 5 - no sure thing - they will likely lose by about 100 points at Seattle the following week. Then comes a season-defining three-game home stand followed by a gimme game against Jacksonville in London. If the Cowboys are 5-5 heading into their Week 11 bye I would consider it a minor miracle.
But even if Dallas can toy with .500 heading into the stretch their last six games are brutal. Four of their final six games are on the road, including their final three divisional contests. Mix in a trip to Chicago in early December and a visit from Indianapolis in Week 16 and there is a really good chance that Dallas won't win more than one game after its overseas trip.
This one is easy. Play the Cowboys 'under'.
