2014 Buffalo Bills Season Win Total Picks & Futures Odds

2013 Record: 6-10
2014 Las Vegas Season Win Total: 6.5
2014 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Over'
The Buffalo Bills are losers. And that type of stench is tough to clean off. Buffalo has not made the postseason since 1999, the longest streak in the NFL, and they have endured 15 years of the Flutie Curse. The Bills have finished over .500 just once in those 15 years and haven't won more than seven games since 2004.
Naturally, the Bills have failed to beat the Las Vegas Season Win Total five times in the last six years. Because, again, they are losers.
I like the sense of urgency the Bills created by trading up in the NFL draft to select Sammy Watkins, whom I felt was one of the best players in the draft. However, because this is Buffalo, they took one step forward with Watkins only to immediately take two steps back with a terrible trade of Stevie Johnson to San Francisco. Instead of entering the season with Johnson on one side, newly acquired Mike Williams on the other, and Watkins as an X-Factor in the slot, now the Bills are banking on Williams (who has had a ton of off field issues) and a rookie (and first-year receivers are generally terrible) to assist second-year signal caller - and huge question mark - E.J. Manuel.
I like Buffalo's offensive line and running game. They also have a potentially dominating defensive front seven, bolstered by the savvy additions of veterans Brandon Spikes and Keith Rivers. Had the Bills not traded Johnson I believe they would've been one of my largest futures bet. However, with a shaky passing game they are a lot less trustworthy as a team.
I will still place a lukewarm 'over' buy on the Bills this year. I think they'll be improved in the second year of Doug Marrone's system and we've seen several young quarterbacks get a nice Year 2 boost recently. Buffalo has a manageable schedule, but in order to top this season win total they will need to be at least 4-4 heading into their Week 9 bye. The Bills have the most difficult December schedule in football with trips to Denver, Oakland and New England bracketing a visit from Green Bay.
