RGIII and the Washington Redskins will attempt to put their poor 2013 season behind them when they visit the Houston Texans in their first game of the season.
Injuries and poor play left the Washington Redskins with a 3-13 record last season, and they weren't even able to benefit with a high draft pick from it. Running back Alfred Morris and the running game were once again one of the best in the NFL, but the Skins' defense finished in the bottom half of the league.
The Redskins put together one of the best free agent classes this past offseason in hopes of taking back the NFC East crown. They grabbed wide receiver DeSean Jackson quickly after he was released by the Eagles, while also signing defensive tackle Jason Hatcher and cornerback Tracy Porter. Second round pick Trent Murphy may get plenty of playing time at the linebacker position this season.
The Houston Texans finished the 2013 season in the bottom of the AFC South with a 2-13 record. Their defense was great against the run and poor against the pass, while their offense had a hard time establishing the run all year.
Over the offseason, the Texans lost top free agent Earl Mitchell, but they made good signings in safety Chris Clemons and defensive end Antonio Smith. Their bad season lead to them getting the number one pick, which they used on defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who many expect to be a superstar sooner rather than later.
