The San Francisco 49ers (4-4) will be hoping that their solid defense can handle the potent passing attack of the New Orleans Saints (4-4) when they face them on Sunday afternoon. The Saints were able to beat the 49ers 23-20 last season.

The 49ers lost their second consecutive game last Sunday when they were beaten 13-10 by the St. Louis Rams. They had just 263 total yards in that loss and they lost two key fumbles late in the game.

San Francisco has struggled to score this season, averaging just 21 points per game through their first eight games. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has thrown for 1,956 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions this season, and he is second on the team with 274 rushing yards. Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin has caught 37 passes for 3652 yards and a team-high three touchdown receptions.

Last Thursday, the Saints were able to win their second game in a row when they beat the Carolina Panthers 28-10 in the road. Their defense was great in that game, holding the Panthers to 231 total yards and forcing two turnovers.

The Saints have been able to gain 436.5 yards per game against their opponents, which is second-best in the NFL right now. Quarterback Drew Brees has a 97.1 passer rating this season and has thrown for 2,524 yards with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Brees' top target has been tight end Jimmy Graham, who has caught 46 passes for 518 yards and five touchdowns.
