The San Francisco 49ers will be looking to build off their good playoff run last year when they start their 2014 season against the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2013, the San Francisco 49ers went 12-4 after winning their final six regular season games, but they may feel that their season was a bust after losing a winnable game to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship. The 49ers had one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL, but they made up for it with a great running game and a top five defensive unit.
The 49ers lost key members of their secondary in the offseason, but they were able to add free agents Antoine Bethea and Chris Cook to fill those holes. The key pick in the draft for San Francisco was running back Carlos Hyde, whose tough running style should fit their system perfectly.
Quarterback Tony Romo had another solid season for the Dallas Cowboys in 2013, but they still missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season after finishing 8-8. Their main problem was their defense, which finished 30th in the NFL against the pass and 27th against the run.
The Cowboys lost defensive tackle Jason Hatcher to the Redskins, but they made up for it by signing free agent Henry Melton. Rookie Zack Martin should see time at one of the Cowboys' offensive line positions, while second round pick Demarcus Lawrence could be a good replacement for defensive end DeMarcus Ware.
