Both the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots lost their first preseason games and will be looking to be a bit more solid when they face each other on Friday night.
The Philadelphia Eagles gave up 491 yards to the Chicago Bears last week in their preseason opener and ended up losing 34-28. Their quarterbacks did combine to throw for 283 yards, but they also threw three interceptions.
The Eagles' number one quarterback Nick Foles completed six of his nine passes, but he also threw three interceptions. Mark Sanchez, who is trying to grab the backup quarterback role, completed seven of his 10 passes for 79 yards.
The only points that the New England Patriots could put on the board against the Washington Redskins were via field goals and they ended up losing the game 23-6. They only gained a total of 270 yards on offense while the Redskins gained 387. Most of the Patriots' starters sat out the game, but it was still a very disappointing performance.
Quarterback Ryan Mallett, who is attempting to retain his backup job with the Patriots, was 5-for-12 for 55 yards in the game. The Patriots' best offensive player in the game was wide receiver Brian Tyms, who had five receptions for 119 yards and one touchdown. Second-year defensive end Michael Buchanan had seven tackles and one sack in the loss.
