The Oakland Raiders had just one road win in 2013, but they will be hoping that the veteran signings they made during the offseason will help them get off to a good start when they visit the New York Jets. The Jets beat the Raiders 37-27 in their Week 14 matchup last season.
The Oakland Raiders were the one team from the AFC West that didn't reach the postseason in 2013 after finishing with a poor 4-12 record. Running back Darren McFadden once again dealt with injuries last year, while their defense had a very tough time against the pass.
The Raiders lost some of their key free agents, but they were able to sign veteran cornerback Carlos Rogers and defensive end Antonio Smith. Their best offseason acquisition, though, was linebacker Khalil Mack, who they took with the No. 5 overall pick.
The New York Jets ended up going 8-8 in 2013, but they could have done a lot better had it not been for their road woes. Quarterback Geno Smith had moments of brilliance in his first season, but the team's passing game finished in the bottom two in the NFL. Their defense did finish in the top half of the league, though, thanks in large part to their ability to stop the run.
The Jets' top free agent pick-ups were quarterback Michael Vick and wide receiver Eric Decker. Rookie safety Calvin Pryor is expected to start next to Dawan Landry this year.
