World famous Lambeau Field will be the site of a game between the 1-0 New York Jets and the 0-1 Green Bay Packers. In the opening week, the New York Jets were victorious against the Oakland Raiders, 19-14, while the Packers suffered a terrible 36-16 defeat at the hands of the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. Both teams need a win in this game, especially the Packers, who could have a big hole to dig out of if they were to fall to 0-2.
Offensively, the Jets had a great opening week. Geno Smith played the quarterback that was one of the best in the league during the final quarter of the 2013 regular season. The second-year player threw for 221 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception and finished with a 96.6 QB rating. In the rushing attack, the team got 102 yards from new arrival and former New Orleans Saint, Chris Ivory. He got 71 of those yards on a single carry. Another new arrival, former Tennessee Titan running back Chris Johnson, carried the ball 13 times for 68 yards and Smith added 38 yards on 10 carries. Former Denver Broncos wide receiver, Eric Decker, had a solid debut with the organization, catching 5 passes for 74 yards.
Behind Aaron Rodgers, the Packers will look to get their offense rolling against the Jets and will hope to keep New York's offense from doing to them what the Seahawks made simple. Rodgers finished the opener with just 189 yards and threw 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He was sacked 3 times and will hope to get better protection against the front seven from New York. James Starks and Eddie Lacy combined to rush for 71 yards on 19 carries. The favorite target on this day for Rodgers and throughout the season was and is Jordy Nelson. He was targeted 14 times and caught 9 balls for 83 yards.
