The Miami Dolphins will be hoping to build off their improved team from 2013 when they host the New England Patriots in their opening game of the season. They played each other twice last year, with each team picking up a home victory.
The Miami Dolphins finished with a .500 record in 2013 despite not finishing in the top half of the league offensively or defensively. Second-year starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill played better and nearly threw for 4000 yards, but Miami's offense was 27th overall in yards.
The Dolphins had one of the their best free agency periods in recent memory. They signed highly-rated nose tackle Earl Mitchell while also adding offensive tackle Branden Albert and safety Chris Clemons. Miami didn't have a great draft, but wide receiver Jarvis Landry should get plenty of playing time this year.
The New England Patriots finished the regular season with a solid 12-4 record before being ousted from the playoffs by the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. Tom Brady and the offense finished the season in the top 10 in the league, but their defense has a tough time against the run, finishing 30th in the NFL.
To help improve their defense, the Patriots signed one of the most highly-coveted free agent cornerbacks in Darrelle Revis. New wide receiver Brandon LaFell should continue to improve now that he has one of the best quarterbacks in the league throwing to him.
