The Dolphins were brought down to Earth in week two after being the talking point of the league in a week one win over the Patriots. That quickly changed after the Buffalo Bills seized the early AFC East lead in a 29-10 win over Miami at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Chiefs are still trying to find Earth after starting 0-2 and finding themselves at the bottom of the AFC West with only Oakland to keep them company.
Kansas City rebounded nicely from a 26-10 season opening throttling to Tennessee but loss nonetheless last week in a hard fought 24-17 matchup with Denver. The 0-2 start is conversely different than a Chiefs team that won their first 9 games to start the 2013 season. The Chiefs actually outgained the Broncos last week 380 to 325 but were still unable to capture the conference road victory. With both Denver and San Diego playing well ahead of them, Kansas City can ill afford too many more losses if they want to keep up in the AFC West race.
Miami looked like the surprise darlings of the league after a dominating 33-20 season opening win over New England. The Dolphins defense shut out the Patriots in the second half of that game and combined with a rushing attack that piled up 191 yards seemed to have a formula for a successful 2014. The Bills brought Miami down to Earth last week using their Clemson Connection of C.J Spiller (102 yard kick return TD) and Sammy Watkins (8 catches, 117 yards, 1TD) to capture the 29-10 win. The Dolphins defense ranks in the top half of the league in opponents rushing and passing yards and will look to attack the injury depleted Chiefs to go 2-0 at home on the year.
The Dolphins were hit with the injury bug last week as Knowshon Moreno went down but KC wasn't without the same virus, losing Jamaal Charles for a few weeks with an ankle sprain. Chiefs backup Knile Davis has proven to be a quality replacement whereas Miami will rely on a RB by committee arrangement. Either way, the Dolphins should get back on track at home and leave the Chiefs looking for answers before a Monday Night matchup next week with the Patriots.
