One of the most talked about matchups in week 2 of the National Football League season features two rivals from the American Football Conference West division. A year ago, the Denver Broncos finished the season in first place in the division after a 13-3 season. Finishing in second place was the Kansas City Chiefs, who finished with an 11-5 record. These two rivals will meet from Sports Authority Field at Mile High this weekend in a game that could drop the Chiefs to 0-2.
The Chiefs lost the season opener to the Tennessee Titans, 26-10. The team saw one of the worst performances in the recent career of quarterback Alex Smith. He did throw for 202 yards and a touchdown, but did throw 3 interceptions and get sacked 4 times. He finished with a QB rating of 45.2 and can't suffer another terrible performance against the Broncos. On the ground, Smith was the leading rusher for the Chiefs, rushing for 36 yards on 6 carries, while their Pro Bowler and top fantasy selection, Jamaal Charles ran for only 19 yards on 7 carries. In the passing game, Donnie Avery was the most popular target for Smith, as he was targeted 13 times and finished with 7 catches for 84 yards.
Even without Wes Welker, who is serving a 4-game suspension, the Broncos looked stellar against the Indianapolis Colts. Despite a late surge from Indy that saw them get within a touchdown, the Broncos were remarkable. Peyton Manning threw for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns and finished with a 111.9 rating. On the ground, they were led by Montee Ball, the second-year back from Wisconsin. In the passing game, Julius Thomas was the most popular target for Manning, as he netted 7 catches for 104 yards and 3 touchdowns. Demaryius Thomas also added 4 catches for 48 yards and new Bronco, Emmanuel Sanders, caught 6 passes for 77 yards.
