The Philadelphia Eagles, who will try to once against exceed expectations this season, will be hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. These two teams haven't played each other since 2010.
The Philadelphia Eagles didn't have the best start to their 2013 season, but they finished the year hot, won the NFC East, and then lost their first round playoff matchup with the New Orleans Saints by just two points. Nick Foles emerged as a long-term solution at the quarterback position, and LeSean McCoy had another outstanding season to lead the rushing attack.
The Eagles surprised many when they decided not to address their many defensive concerns through free agency, and then they cut ties with star wide receiver DeSean Jackson. They did draft linebacker Marcus Smith, though, who they hope will take over for Trent Cole in the next year or two.
In 2013, the Jacksonville Jaguars had their third consecutive losing season by finishing third in the AFC South with a 4-12 record. They finished in the bottom of the league both offensively and defensively, and quarterback Chad Henne and running back Maurice Jones-Drew both performed well below expectations.
The Jaguars were able to retain prized free agent guard Zane Beadles, but they weren't able to bring in any other top free agents. They did have a very good draft, though, by selecting quarterback Blake Bortles with the third pick in the draft, and then they got lucky when wide receiver Marquise Lee was available in the second round.
