Sunday's matchup between the Colts and Jaguars features one team that expected to be in a bad way and another that was supposed to contend for a Super Bowl title in 2014. Unless the pundits got into the wine a little early, Jacksonville was never expected to be a title contender this season but they find themselves tied at the bottom of the AFC South with the preseason darling Indianapolis Colts as both squads are 0-2. Even though most people are predicting Indy to get their season back on track in week 3, that's no given on the road.
For all the adversity Indianapolis has faced early, it's not completely surprising to be 0-2 after playing two first place teams from last year in Denver and Philadelphia. Plus the Colts don't have to be down after playing the Broncos to within 7 in Denver and only losing by a field goal on Monday. For all intents and purposes, the Colts offense is just fine ranking 7th in PPG and 7th in passing YPG but the defense has been suspect ranking 28th in opponents passing yards.
The Jaguars were 30 minutes away from shocking the world their last game at home, week one against Philadelphia in which they rambled out to a 17-0 lead only to lose 34-17. The Jags have been bad on offense and defense to start the year, allowing over 420 yards in both games while rushing for only 89 total themselves (worst in NFL). On top of that QB Chad Henne has been sacked 13 times already, which has the Jaguars reluctant to go to Blake Bortles strictly because they don't want their investment hurt.
The Colts have had little trouble with Jacksonville over their last 3 meetings and should continue that trend on Sunday. If Andrew Luck controls the ball in the final few minutes Monday Night, we're talking about a 1-1 team coming off a strong victory against a high powered offense instead of an 0-2 team on the verge of a disaster. Plus, a matchup with the Jacksonville offensive line is usually a good way to get a pass rush back on track.
