Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos will face their longtime divisional rivals - the San Diego Chargers.

The Denver Broncos didn’t look their best last week against the Buffalo Bills but they were able to hold on for a 24 -17 victory that extended their AFC West division lead.  The Broncos took a 7 -0 lead to open the game and were up 14 -3 by halftime.  A TD and a field goal in the 3rd made it a 24 - 3 game and it looked like the Broncos would cruise to an easy win.  But the Bills came roaring back in the 4th quarter by adding 2 touchdowns to make it a nail-biter for Denver.  While Denver might not look like last season’s juggernaut, they seem to be rounding into form on offense and defense as the season comes to an end.  They will need another strong performance this week as they try to ruin San Diego’s playoff hopes.

The San Diego Chargers are barely holding onto the last playoff spot in the AFC and they really needed a win last week against the New England Patriots.  For most of the game, it looked like the Chargers would get that win but in the end, the Patriots took over to deal the Chargers a 23 - 14 loss. San Diego actually had a 14 – 3 lead over New England midway through the 2nd quarter but the Pats cut that lead to 14 -13 going into half.  And another 10 points in the 4th quarter sealed the win for New England.  With 6 teams breathing down the necks of the Chargers for the 6th playoff spot in the AFC, the Chargers need a win over the Broncos and that will be a tall order for Philip Rivers and company.
