On Friday, the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots, who are both 1-1 this preseason, will meet up in New England as both teams try to nail down their regular season rosters.
It took the Carolina Panthers a while to find their footing in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, but they played well in the middle quarters and ended up winning 28-16. The Panthers finished with 279 total yards on offense, but coach Ron Rivera will be happy that they went the entire game without turning the ball over.
Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart rushed the ball just four times in the game, but he finished with 26 yards and two touchdowns. All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly had four tackles in the win with a sack and a tackle for loss. Quarterback Cam Newton was 4-for-9 passing in the first half for 65 yards.
The New England Patriots used more of their starters in their second preseason game and were able to pull off the 42-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Pats gained 476 yards in the win, including 250 yards on the ground. They also forced the Eagles into committing four turnovers.
Quarterback Tom Brady made his preseason debut for the Patriots and was 8-for-10 in the game for 81 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. Running back Jonas Gray, who is still hoping to make the regular season roster, rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries.
